Sew Simply Stitched 2018 Educator

Megan Legas

Megan’s career teaching quilting began in Nebraska when she taught women to quilt to raise money to help build a church.  It was also in Nebraska that she fell in love with antique quilts.  ALL her quilts are hand-quilted.  Megan taught for 6-7 years in Nebraska and was named as runner-up to "National Professional Quilt Teacher of the Year".  Her hand quilting is spectacular and she has won many awards for her skills.

Megan believes in teaching the process of quilting rather than teaching a project.  She rarely teaches a project, as she wants each person to have an individualized quilt when they finish.   She is drawn to scrap quilts and believes in using up what you already have.  She loves to play with blocks and techniques and come up with new patterns and ideas. She drafts the patterns for her quilts on graph paper, and loves to play with the design and find surprises along the way.

She has served as president of Utah Valley Quilt Guild, and chairman of the Springville Museum of Art Quilt Show.  She has judged numerous quilt shows, and loves having her quilts judged so she can learn from the critiques. Her biggest thrill of the last few years was having her quilts accepted into AQS national shows in Paducah, KY, Grand Rapids, MI., and Lancaster, PA.
