Can you take a decade of highs and lows, twists and turns, and have everything “come round
right”? This whimsical quilt, inspired by the lyrics of the hymn “Tis a Gift to be Simple”,
celebrates our ability to turn and bend and choose happiness no matter what. It’s a little like life.
In this class you will take the traditional Dresden fan quilt block and improvise with it to create
large scale flowers on a quilt top. These can be appliqued by hand or by machine. It’s a little
taste of arranging and designing your own composition so the finished product looks just right to
your creative eye. Then the entire quilt is finished off with a vibrant border full of stems and
leaves which are also a subtle nod to the number 10. We will have so much fun making Come
Round Right!
Students will be expected to come to class with the main section of their background fabrics
sewn so we can jump right into making the flowers. You can expect to create at least one of
your flowers in class, and receive instruction for completing the entire quilt top.

Hey all you embroidery and Bag Lovers!! Have you embroidered on mesh and sewn it into a bag? We will be choosing a simple Sketch embroidery design, and learn how to personalize it before making the small, zippered pouch. Simple as 1,2,3. These are so fun to make as a quick gift for a friend, neighbor or just someone special. Come try out the Bernina Machines and have some fun with embroidery and making these adorable pouches! To celebrate our memories of 10 years at Sew Simply Stitched, let’s make a Merry Memories Quilt.  This picturesque Christmas quilt has one-inch finished squares, and one-inch wide strips.  We will work on careful ¼” seams so everything fits together well and looks uniform.  I will have “tips for tiny pieces” (cutting, pressing, strip piecing, etc.) so all the rows and squares look perfect. The frame blocks are alternated with trees.  It’s also fun to fussy cut the pictures for the frames.  We will be able to make several 9-patch blocks of the little squares, one picture frame, and one tree block; maybe much more.  Make a few blocks to practice these skills or complete a whole quilt.

This pattern had me at first sight! I love a good star block and the best part is there are no points to have match up. We will be working with an oversized flying geese block. Come learn all the tips and tricks to putting this block together. 

Come learn to embroider a quilt label! Do you have a quilt you've made for that special someone and need the cherry that goes on top? This is the class for you!! We have several selections. This is a fun class to learn embroidery!! We are also offering a fun “Sew Simply Stitched” custom quilt label (only available to students) to identify your favorite quilts from the retreat!

If you shy away from zipper projects, it might be time to fix your love/hate relationship with zippers! Most quilters avoid projects that have a zipper so come and sew a zipper pouch or two and see how easy zippers really can be. In class we will be making the Wilma Pouch. We will assemble and quilt the bag exterior, add the zipper and complete the bag in class. We will use the new Box Bag Template Ruler to make the boxed corners. It really is as easy as it sounds.
With the remaining time you will have the option of also making the Cork Bottom Pencil Pouch. We probably won’t get both completed in class, but you should be able to get the second bag close to completion.

Come learn how to MASTER your Creative Grids Squared Stripology rulers to get the most out of them! They aren’t just for cutting strips. We will use our new skills to make this darling quilt. Lilo is a quick and easy quilt that looks challenging and difficult, but it’s not. Great for beginners, but also a quick quilt for anyone with a ruler and rotary cutter. You should be able to finish a good portion of the quilt in class.
Use just 3 fabrics, or create a scrappy version with fat quarters. You will love this book and all the ways you can use your ruler!

Make a cute, one-of-kind embroidered rope bowl which you can use to organize your sewing room or in gift giving. Create a bowl or a trivet and choose between one of two embroidery designs which will already be on the embroidered machine to embellish it. Add some additional embellishment with optional thread wrapping. Warning- this is addicting! Once you get started you may never want to stop.

Alison Glass has done it again! This class is going to be so much fun and you can showcase all of your favorite fabrics in this darling “Stamp Quilt”. Learn the beauty of the mitered corner and how to fussy cut for perfect placement to get your favorite stamp. Templates will make the process even better. There is a free Stamp Block pattern you can sign up for at alisonglass.com, but if you want the full pattern for all the layouts, purchase the whole pattern. The possibilities with this technique are endless! Cheryl will show you all the ins– and outs of how to make all 3 of these amazing quilts using all of your favorite “stamps”

Come learn the art of collage quilting! This technique is so much fun and once you understand the basics, you will be looking at everything in a new light! We will talk about several methods to create a one of a kind collage quilt, colors, and how to layer everything to achieve the perfect look. You can choose from the Birch Street Collage (finished size 38” X 50”) or a smaller project like one of the Teeny Tiny Collage Sewing Machines or Pincushions (finished size 16” x 20”). We will get your quilt started and let you take it from there, because cutting out the elements takes the longest. As we get closer to class time, you will get detailed instructions/video on what fabrics to look for… and many of them will be in your stash! There will be enough in your kit or from the supply lists to get you a healthy start on your quilt! We should finish a house and maybe even a tree on Birch Street, or the tomato pincushion. We will not be sewing in this class, so no need to bring your machine.

Like all Kaleidoscopes, just making a few turns gives you a whole new look! Come learn how easy and fun foundation paper piecing is. This class is for all skill levels, but especially for the beginner, and you will learn all of Cheryl’s shortcuts to get you hooked! Grab a variety of your favorite fat quarters and let’s mix them up to create your own Kaleidoscope. More info and pre-cutting instructions will be sent prior to class. The class kit will include the pattern and all the pre-printed papers needed to create your blocks.

Customize with fabrics and thread of your choice, picking and arranging the snowman blocks however you'd like to make a unique project! This set includes a total of twenty applique blocks to choose from (only fifteen are needed for the tree skirt), as well as two different options for the inner and outer blocks. We will only be able to finish one Dresden section in the 3 hr class. To complete the tree skirt, you must have access to an embroidery machine at home to finish it.

This Mountain Lodge Quilt Class is a “Fun with Triangles Class”.  Learn how to make and square up Four-at-a time Flying Geese when they aren’t “true flying geese (width = 2x height)”.   The mountains are constructed of squares and half square triangles.  We will learn to sew curved seams to make the sun. There will be tips for pressing each of the different sections.  We will be able to perfect all of the steps in this quilt while completing the top row.  This is a cute quilt that comes together fast.

Do you love wool like I do? If you have never appliqued on wool or even if you have, come learn 2 different methods to prepare and attach your pieces to the background . Pick your favorite method and apply all your pieces or try all three on different pieces.

You will learn buttonhole stitch and a few decorative stitches to finish your bowl fillers. No machines are needed, just you and your needle!

We will be working on a simple project that you can finish off however you would like. From framing, making a pillow, making a bowl filler, adding it to a box, really the list goes on and on. No need to bring your sewing machine, this is a handwork only class!

The Decades Quilt is a tribute to growth, resilience, producing good fruit, and directing energy to what matters most, all done over and over again across the decades. It is portrayed in a large, modern take on the tree of life framed by stars to celebrate the fruits of our efforts. The outer border creates lovely movement as it frames the vibrant tree, and also adds a subtle “X” to signify the Roman numeral for the number 10. In this class you will learn several skills, such as half square triangles, half rectangle triangles, unique Dresden plate blocks, and a small amount of foundation paper piecing. The Decades quilt class will be action packed and full of fun as we create our one-of-a-kind quilts!

Couching can add wonderful texture to your quilting, add drama to the design, and can even be used in thread painting and as a corded edge. Most pieces of clothing can be added. You will learn all the best techniques to make it easy and enjoyable!
Many people have T-shirts that hold memories, though they no longer wear them, maybe even have planned to make into a quilt someday. Break those shirts out of the drawer and breathe new life into them by turning them into a T-shirt quilt. This class will go over everything you need to know to create your own heirloom T-shirt quilt.

These darling mini flags create a banner that will welcome Spring when you are wanting the change in seasons! Using felt applique to embellish fabric flags gives this banner dimension and flair. Adding embroidery stitches enhances te details of the applique and makes each banner truly a work of art. The flags finish at 3 1/2” x 4 1/2”. The finished banner can be made longer or shorter by adding extra flags, embellishing with felt poms or wood beads or simply spacing the flags further apart.

What do you do when you have scraps overflowing the bin? You make a Posh Penelope of course! This is such a fun block to make and once you get the block down, you can make the basic 1/4 block in 15 minutes and an entire block in about 1 hour. Make one after every project and soon you will have an entire quilt.
These curves are sewn without pins… yes, WITHOUT pins. You’ll be amazed at how easy they are to sew. You’ll sew, trim, repeat until the block is finished. Trimming down lets you end up with a perfectly square block.
